The Rolex Sultan is one of the exceptional model variants of the Submariner with rarity value. For this reason, this version is particularly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts. Not only is the Sultan now hard to come by - which is even truer for full sets or specimens in unpolished or excellent condition. Moreover, it is an exotic model that has that special something. The Rolex Submariner Sultan was produced until 2008 and bears the reference number 16613. It is the five-digit bicolour reference (904L stainless steel with 18-carat yellow gold) of the Submariner Date.

Champagne or "slate grey dial"?

The Rolex Sultan was available in two different dial colours: the "slate grey dial" and "champagne. Both colours reflect the colour nuance of the metals used: the grey of the Submariner Sultan harmonises with the stainless steel; the champagne-coloured gold matches the gold accents of the case and strap perfectly.

Both versions were sold in roughly equal numbers, so it is ultimately a matter of personal taste which version of the Rolex Sultan is preferred. While the champagne-coloured dial is a little more eye-catching and gives the watch a little more colour, the silver-coloured dial is characterised by understatement.
