An elegant combination of functionality and aesthetics

Sailing requires endurance and concentration under extreme circumstances - thus, those who expose themselves to these adrenalin rushes are in need of a reliable companion. This companion was discovered in the Rolex Yacht-Master II (Ref. 116680, Ref. 116681, Ref. 116688, and Ref. 116689) that successfully manages to meet the high standards of athletes concerning precision, robustness, and sophistication. Both the Yacht-Master II and its sister model, the Yacht-Master I, belong to the collection of Oyster Professional wristwatches. As expected, Rolex only uses the best materials for every single one of its timepieces.

In 1927, Mercedes Gleitze attempted to swim the English Channel with the first Oyster watch secured around her neck. The watch was considered the first working waterproof watch in history.Today, the Yacht-Master II is water-resistant to 100 metres and promises watchmaking perfection.

The Rolex Yacht-Master II combines innovative mechanism with simple operation.

The simple complexity of the Rolex Yacht-Master II

Precision plays a key role In regattas and other competitions concerning speed. In contrast to other watches, the bezel of the Rolex Yacht-Master does not operate independently from the movement of the timepiece. The outstanding feature of this wristwatch is the Ring Command bezel that is linked to the mechanism inside the watch. This means that the programmable countdown is operated via the bidirectional 90° rotatable bezel, which is a fascinating Rolex innovation.

But this regatta chronograph is not only attractive to technophiles, it is also very pleasing to the general eye. The red-contoured countdown-arrow and the matching second hand are an elegant contrast to the simplistic white dial of the Yacht-Master II. The graduated bezel is manufactured in 18 carat gold and blue Cerachrom, which features bold, gold-coated numerals.

The Rolex Yacht-Master II is comprised of complicated mechanisms that translate into uncomplicated use. The functionality of the timepiece is combined with sophisticated elegance, resulting in a true statement on the wrist.

Rolex Yacht-Master II

The result of unsurpassed innovation

Rolex designed the Yacht-Master II specifically for those who participate in yacht racing. Therefore, water-resistance is of utmost importance. The innovative Triplock winding crown is a patented waterproof system that was first introduced as a feature for diving watches in 1970.The system is completed when the winding crown screws down against the Oyster case, creating unyielding waterproof capabilities.

The famous Rolex Oyster case is manufactured in different materials including the case comprised of 18 carat yellow gold (Ref. 116688). This version is unquestionably the most noticeable watch of the Yacht-Master collection. The case is also available in steel and Everose gold (Ref. 116681), white gold and platinum (Ref. 116689), as well as stainless steel (Ref. 116680). The stainless steel case may offer an interesting alternative for those who prefer the bold robustness of the superalloy 904L since it is highly resistant to corrosion.

The regatta chronograph is not only a treat for the eyes, it is also a technical marvel. 35,000 hours of dedicated development were put into the inner workings of the Rolex Yacht-Master II. Following four years of hard work, the calibre 4146 was presented. Currently, the production of this movement takes time and patience: The 360 components that make up the calibre 4146 cannot be put together in a hurry. However, the end result is certainly worth the wait: The Oyster Perpetual wristwatch is equipped with a regatta chronograph movement with a self-winding mechanism. The countdown can be programmed from anywhere between ten minutes to one, and features a patented mechanical memory. The power reserve of 72 hours is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the reasons why the exceptional movement passed the tests of the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) with flying colours.

The unique watches of the Rolex Yacht-Master II collection

It is only the highest quality of materials that meet the Rolex standard - and the Yacht-Master II is no exception. Its diversity is represented by four distinct designs. Its 44-millimetre case is available in elegant versions featuring different high-quality materials. In march 2010, the Yacht-Master II in yellow gold (Ref. 116688) was introduced along with the exquisite model in white gold and platinum (Ref. 116689). Only one year later, a new version rocked the boat: The sophisticated steel and 18 carat Everose gold Yacht-Master II (Ref. 116681) exudes sophistication, unlike any other watch. The Yacht-Master II collection became even more diverse in 2014 when the 904L steel model (Ref. 116680) was presented. On the display of the watch, the use of Chromalight ensures perfect legibility in any situation.

The Rolex Yacht-Master II

Strength, sophistication, success

When it comes to yachting, precision is key. The Rolex Yacht-Master II is specifically designed to meet the high demands of those practicing the sport. Time and again, the regatta chronograph has proven its reliability and accuracy. This comes as no surprise, however, as Rolex has long been connected to the world of yachting.

628 nautical miles are covered during the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Starting annually on December 26th, also known as Boxing Day, yacht crews must face the waters from Sydney to Hobart, Tasmania, without as much as one full night of sleep. Along the coastline of Sardinia, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, as well as the Rolex Swan Cup, take place. Both the Rolex Swan Cup and the Rolex Fastnet Race, which are set in the Celtic Sea, are famous sailing events that happen every other year and attract large crowds of yachting enthusiasts. Another world-famous yachting competition is the Rolex FarrⓇ 40 World Championship, which is considered to be the most important one-design yacht racing event of the year.

No matter what the circumstances, the Rolex Yacht-Master II demonstrates exceptionally reliable functionality and sleek design. Not to mention that sophisticated individuals on land have also found an elegant accessory in the luxurious men’s watch.

The Rolex Yacht-Master II

A watch for winners

The philosophy of the Swiss manufacturer, widely known as the Rolex Way, is reflected in the Rolex Yacht-Master II. Set in a higher price range than its sister model, the Yacht-Master I, this regatta chronometer offers a range of spectacular wristwatches for every taste.

Whether the model of choice is comprised of yellow gold or a platinum gold mixture, the latest Yacht-Master II (Ref. 116680) is a luxury item of extraordinary quality. The elaborate technology along with the remarkable quality of the Yacht-Master II justifies the higher price of the timeless wristwatch. However, the latest models of the series can already be found on the second-hand market for milder prices. New or second-hand - all models of the Yacht-Master II collection are sophisticated and reliable Rolex watches that triumph with a combination of modern technologies and tradition.
