Innovative magnetic field protection
In 2013, Omega caused a true revolution in the world of watches: With the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss (Ref. 231.10.42.21.01.002), the manufacturer announced the first completely anti-magnetic watch.
The watch can withstand magnetic fields of up to 15,000 Gauss, which is more than enough resistance for everyday use. The sportive-looking exterior of the Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss (Ref. 231.10.42.21.01.002) conceals a ground-breaking movement: The Co-Axial calibre 8508 is resistant to magnetic fields up to 1.5 Tesla (15,000 Gauss), which makes it more reliable than most wristwatches around.
Instead of utilizing the usual approach of shielding the movement with a second case surrounding it, the magnetic protection is achieved through the use of special non-magnetic materials for the movement itself.
This innovative solution allows for more freedom in design: For the first time in the history of anti-magnetic watches, the movement of the watch can be admired through a transparent sapphire bottom, without impairing its ground-breaking magnetic resistance.
