Legendary diver's watch

Since 1954, the renowned watch company Tudor has conquered with its Submariner model and found a firm place in the hearts of demanding watch lovers and collectors of vintage diving watches.

The Tudor Submariner gained immeasurable popularity when the first Oyster Prince Submariner with the reference 7922 was presented in 1954. Robust, reliable, and waterproof, the timepiece convinces both professional and amateur divers who enjoy a reliable diving mechanism that can also be worn during everyday life. The case of the Tudor Submariner was provided by its parent company, Rolex, and featured a screw-down crown, a screw-down case back, and a reliable water resistance up to a depth of approximately 100 meters. Luminous hands, indices, and bezel graduation marking were a highly functional feature of the timepiece. The Tudor Submariner caused a stir among the watch loving community and was further developed throughout the years.

When the Submariner was first introduced to the market, Tudor was considered a young brand that was trying to establish itself as a quality timepiece producer offering appealing prices. The brand was known to be the daughter company of Rolex and was, in fact, sometimes manufactured with Rolex parts. While the classic Rolex was never intended for the masses, the Tudor Submariner was sold at a moderate price while matching the quality standards of Rolex. Today, Tudor keeps its prices friendly by obtaining its movements from the best producers in the industry, such as Fleurier or later, ETA. However, the similarities between Tudor and Rolex timepiece are still very evident when it comes to the Tudor Submariner collection.

The Tudor Submariner Snowflake

A Tudor Submariner success story

The Submariner models of today are, in addition to the Tudor chronographs, the most sought-out vintage timepieces from the iconic brand. The popularity the Submariner is partly due to the close relationship that the timepieces have with the Rolex Submariners from the same era, which are among the most highly demanded vintage watches to date. Several generations of the Tudor Submariner were manufactured with bracelets, cases, and other components made by Rolex. All in all, the Tudor Submariner simply convinces with a rich history. In the 1960s, soldiers of the US Navy were equipped with Tudor Submariners and the French Navy was also supplied with the robust timepieces beginning in the 1970s.

Today, collectors differentiate between the Tudor Submariner models with the typical Rolex Mercedes-hour hand and the Tudor Submariner models with the so-called snowflake hand. The hour marker of the second variant is shaped in the form of a snowflake. They appeared in the early 1960s and provided the Tudor Submariner with its own distinctive style. In the 1980s, the Mercedes hand returned to the reference series 7900, but the Snowflake Submariner remained in high-demand. Once the production of the timepiece ceased altogether, the demand for the vintage models grew tremendously. The Submariner "Rose" (Ref. 7928), "Snowflake" (Ref. 9401/0 and 9411/0) and "Big Crown" (Ref. 7924) are now considered to be real relics among the Tudor Submariner collection.

To celebrate the legendary model, Tudor presented the Heritage Black Bay collection in 2012, which honours the famous Submariner with its distinctive aesthetics.
