Heuer Autavia

The origin of the Autavia name is derived from a combination of two words. “AUT” is taken from the word automobile while “AVIA” is taken from the word aviation. They mingle together to create the name Autavia. This makes sense considering the timepiece is inspired from elements both in the field of racing and aviation. The most famous watch among the Autavia collection is the 1969 Jo Siffert Autavia. Evidently named after the Swiss racer Jo Siffert, the watch convinces with a white dial, blue indices, and a robust stainless steel case.

Other popular models include watch models that date back to 1984 – otherwise known as the era of LCD and quartz movements. It is during this period that the transition from Heuer to the subsequent TAG Heuer name was initiated. The Autavia Diver 100 is, therefore, one of the rareest timepieces among the Autavia series. The dive watch is waterproof up to 100 meters and excites with characteristic Heuer optics. There is only a handful of these exclusive timepieces worldwide.

The Swiss manufacturer also launched an Autavia watch derived from collaboration with the Viceroy cigarette brand: the popular Viceroy-Autavia. Vintage enthusiasts tend to take a liking to this watch.

The TAG Heuer Autavia wristwatches found their way onto the wrists of many celebrities in the 1970s, among them being the legendary Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Often, the Autavia Chronograph Ref. 11630P can be spotted on his wrist. The American actor and comedian Jerry Seinfeld has also been occasionally spotted with an Autavia vintage around his wrist.
